The brothers Giulio and Stefano Porro opened their first furniture workshop in Brianza in 1925. In the 1950s, the business transitioned to the next generation — cousins Carlo, Arturo, and Silvio — and the company shifted towards modernism. This design change was made possible through a long and fruitful collaboration with architect Giulio Moscatelli, who significantly influenced the brand's development direction.
From the mid-1980s, when the third generation joined the family business — cousins Lorenzo, Fabio, Giovanni, and Danilo Porro — the company started to view design as the driving force behind its progress. During this period, successful collaboration began with Piero Lissoni, who took on the role of art director in 1989. Over the years, he has created several key products for the company, including the Ferro table, which was launched in 1994. This sculptural piece is rightly considered a bestseller and vividly demonstrates the philosophy of pure and elegant design the brand embodies.
Subsequent collaborations with talented designers such as Christophe Pillet, Jean-Marie Massaud, Front, Alessandro Mendini, and Nao Tamura have further expanded Porro's catalog.
The Sidewall bookshelf, designed by Piero Lissoni, consists of modules of various sizes. This versatile piece looks stunning on the wall and as a freestanding unit in the center of a room. Its open sections can be utilized not only for storing books but also for showcasing small collections of items.
The Romby chairs, designed by the design duo GamFratesi in a retro style, are perfect for dining areas or workspaces. These cocoon-like chairs have impeccable proportions that embrace the body while leaving room for movement.
The Porro brand is known for its philosophy of simplicity, harmony, and elegance. The company's designers strive to create furniture that is not only functional but also imparts a unique style to the space.
