In 1842, Michael Thonet settled in Vienna, where he founded the furniture company Gebrüder Thonet in 1853. He brought in his five sons, who were also involved in furniture production.
During this period, products such as chair No. 1, created for the famous Viennese Schwarzenberg Palace, entered the market. This chair later became the basis for developing many other brand models, including the classic chair No. 14. By 1911; the Gebrüder Thonet catalog already included 980 different models.
From its inception, Wiener GTV Design has been a beacon of innovation, consistently attracting the attention of leading designers and architects. These creative minds collaborate with the company, ensuring that the furniture created not only meets but also sets the standards for modern requirements and aesthetics.
Wiener GTV Design's collections reflect sophistication and elegance. Inspired by classic forms, the designers create new interpretations contributing to a unique yet cozy and comfortable interior atmosphere.
For example, the Swedish duo Front collaborated to develop the Hideout lounge chairs, combining comfort and sophisticated design. The Hideout line features a large, comfortable seat and a square beech wood structure that provides privacy.
The brand is also known for its original accessories. For example, the modular Waltz wall hanger, designed by the design duo GamFratesi, symbolizes the rotating movements and light steps of the most famous ballroom dance, from which the item takes its name. Thanks to its modular design, you can create your configuration.
Furniture from Wiener GTV Design is perceived as a genuine work of art, so naturally, many creators sought to interpret the brand's items as art objects.
