The predominant colors in our surroundings significantly impact our mood, emotions, and productivity. In interior design, the color palette can radically change the perception of space: it can visually enlarge its scale, create a sense of coziness, establish a relaxing atmosphere, or stimulate activity. In this article, we will explore the effects of different colors on our perception and ways to use them in interior design.
Red is associated with activity, strength, sensuality, and ambition. It can stimulate appetite, energize, and enhance productivity, so it is often used in offices, dining rooms, and living rooms.
Red is a bright and intense color, so it's essential to be careful when using it in interior design. For example, you can add small red accents through artwork and decor or paint one of the walls in the space red.

Blue is the embodiment of harmony, calmness, and tranquility. It can lower stress levels and promote relaxation, making it suitable for bedrooms, bathrooms, and lounge areas. Blue is also associated with purity and lightness, so it can be used to enlarge a space visually.
However, dark, cool shades of blue can evoke feelings of unease and sadness, so it is better to opt for lighter shades of blue or combine them with warm, soft colors, such as beige or cream.
Green is associated with nature, balance, and harmony. Like blue, it has a calming effect, promotes relaxation, and creates a pleasant atmosphere. It is suitable for interiors where one can unwind and rest.
Green is often combined with plants and flowers, which adds freshness, naturalness, and vibrancy to the space.
Grey is a color that embodies elegance, restraint, and stability. Its use in interior design helps create a calm atmosphere, suitable for both workspaces and relaxation areas. Additionally, grey pairs well with other colors and can be used as a primary or accent color in interior spaces.
Yellow is a symbol of joy, warmth, and energy. Its presence in interior design can create a positive atmosphere and enhance productivity. Due to these qualities, yellow can be an excellent option for spaces where energy and creativity are essential, such as a home office or kitchen. Light yellow shades can also be used to visually enlarge a space or in areas lacking natural light.
However, excessive use of bright yellow tones can cause anxiety and lead to overstimulation, so it is recommended to use it as an accent color.
White is associated with purity and weightlessness, which are very important in creating the overall atmosphere of a space. It is versatile and can be used in combination with other colors and as a primary color. White is suitable for decorating bedrooms, bathrooms, and lounge areas, as well as small spaces that one wants to visually enlarge.
However, in large amounts, white can create a sense of sterility and lifelessness, so it is advisable to add brighter accents or experiment with textures and materials in the space.
Black is a bold and expressive choice that can add depth, elegance, and drama to a space. While black is often considered gloomy and heavy, it can become a stylish accent when applied correctly.
Black is frequently associated with modern design. It can be effectively used in minimalist and industrial interiors. Additionally, black works well with various textures. Smooth surfaces like glass and metal can be paired with matte or rough textures to create an interesting visual dynamic.
